About Deptford, NJ
Deptford is a township located in Gloucester County, New Jersey, and is an eastern suburb of Philadelphia, sitting on the eastern end of the Walt Whitman Bridge that connects New Jersey with Philadelphia. Present-day Deptford was first established as “Bethlehem” in 1695 by Swedish and Finnish settlers. It was formally incorporated as a township in 1798 as one of New Jersey’s first 104 townships under the Township Act. Deptford is named for the English port of the same name. Portions of Deptford were later taken to form Washington Township in 1836, Woodbury in 1854, West Deptford Township in 1871, Wenonah in 1883, Westville in 1914, and Woodbury Heights in 1915. Deptford was the landing site of the first hot-air balloon flight in North America. Today, Deptford is home to the Deptford Mall, the seventh-largest shopping mall in New Jersey and the largest in South Jersey, which anchors Deptford’s business and commercial district.
Frequently Asked Questions about Deptford, NJ Criminal Defense
Before you make the decision to speak to the police or answer questions posed to you by police investigators, you should consult with a knowledgeable criminal defense attorney. Even though police officers may try to convince you that you can help your case or your situation by answering questions, the police are obviously more interested in solving the case than in helping your interests. An attorney can review the facts and circumstances of your case and provide you with experienced, well-reasoned advice about whether you should agree to speak to the police.
The police may be entitled to conduct a search of your person, your vehicle, your office, or your home in certain circumstances. Police may conduct a search pursuant to a warrant issued by a court. The police may also conduct a search of your vehicle during a traffic stop when they have probable cause to believe that there is evidence of criminal conduct inside your vehicle (such as when police canines indicate the presence of drugs). Police can also conduct a pat-down search of your person when you are detained or arrested. The police can also conduct a search with your consent; before consenting to any search, it is advisable that you consult with a criminal defense attorney.
