Frequently Asked Questions About Criminal Defense in Haddonfield, NJ
Although you have a constitutional right to represent yourself in your criminal case, it is generally unadvisable to do so. It is always preferable to have an experienced criminal defense attorney represent you against criminal charges, since an attorney will have knowledge of the law and experience defending clients against the crimes you have been charged with. An attorney will also be able to provide you with an unbiased assessment of your case and of the risks and consequences that you may face.
Though it may be tempting to take a plea bargain when it seems like the prosecution has a solid case against you, you should always first consult with a criminal defense lawyer before accepting any plea bargain. An attorney can help you evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the state’s case, the risks of going to trial, and the potential sentences you may face if you are convicted at trial. In some cases, a criminal defense attorney may be able to negotiate a better plea deal than the one you were initially offered.
