About Pennsauken Township, NJ
Pennsauken Township is located in Camden County, New Jersey, across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. Pennsauken Township was incorporated in 1892 from portions of Stockton Township. It is believed that the township’s name derives from the language of the Lenape Native American people, specifically the term “Pindasenauken”, which means “tobacco pouch”. Alternatively, the name may derive from “Penn”, for Pennsylvania founder William Penn, and “sauk”, meaning water inlet/outlet. Pennsauken Township was home to America’s first drive-in movie theater, the Camden Drive-In, opened in 1933.
Frequently Asked Questions about Criminal Defense in Pennsauken Township, NJ
Many criminal cases do not go to trial. In some cases, criminal defense attorneys are able to uncover exonerating evidence, or the prosecution may determine that it does not have enough evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. In cases where the prosecution has a strong case, it may offer the defendant a plea bargain, under which the defendant avoids trial by agreeing to plead guilty in exchange for the dismissal and/or downgrading of some charges and/or a recommended sentence below the maximum or likely sentence that the defendant would receive if convicted at trial.
Ultimately, the decision whether to accept a plea bargain offered by the state or to contest your criminal charges at trial is a decision that must be made by you and you alone. However, an experienced criminal defense attorney can help you evaluate your situation so that you make an informed, thoughtful decision about whether to plead guilty or go to trial. An attorney can help you understand the strengths and weaknesses of the state’s case and of your own defense strategy, the potential sentences you could receive if convicted at trial, and the short-term and long-term consequences of a criminal conviction.
