Frequently Asked Questions about West Deptford Township, NJ Criminal Defense
When you are detained or arrested by the police, the officers may try to tell you that you can help your case by offering information that you have or by answering their questions. However, before you make the decision to speak with the police, it is important that you first consult with an experienced criminal defense attorney about the respective benefits and consequences of speaking to law enforcement or answering their questions.
You should never consent to a search by police until you first speak with a knowledgeable criminal defense lawyer who can explain your rights and the potential benefits and consequences of allowing a search. However, remember that under certain circumstances the police may conduct a warrantless search without your consent, such as a pat-down search of your persons if you are detained or arrested, or a search of your vehicle during a traffic stop if police have probable cause to believe that there is evidence of a crime in the vehicle.
